It is the primary sourcing channel for vintage JDM watches sold by individual Japanese sellers, and the platform that accounts for the majority of the arbitrage opportunities Tonbo tracks.
Context and Usage
Listings on Yahoo Auctions Japan default to the auction format: a start price, a duration of typically 3 to 7 days, and a closing time. Many listings also include a 即決 (sokketsu) price, which is a buyout figure at which any buyer can end the auction immediately. For arbitrage buyers, sokketsu listings are preferable because they allow a precise cost calculation before bidding. Auction-only listings close at unpredictable prices.
The photo standard on Yahoo Auctions Japan is notably higher than Mercari. Individual sellers routinely post 12 to 20 images per listing, including dial close-ups, case back detail, movement shots if the back is sapphire, bracelet clasp wear, and crown close-ups. Vintage watch sellers with high transaction counts understand exactly what buyers need to evaluate a purchase. This makes condition assessment from photos more reliable than on most other platforms.
Seller ratings work on a positive/negative system similar to eBay. Sellers with 1,000 or more positive ratings and a near-zero negative count are the equivalent of established marketplace merchants. Newly registered sellers with fewer than 50 ratings warrant more scrutiny and should ideally provide more documentation on high-value items.

International buyers cannot purchase directly. Yahoo Auctions Japan requires a Japanese delivery address and a Japanese payment method.
