JDM Watch Glossary

保証書あり (Hoshousho-ari)

保証書あり means the watch is sold with its original warranty card or papers. For JDM watches, warranty documents are in Japanese and confirm the original purchase date and retailer.

保証書あり (hoshousho-ari) means with warranty card or with papers. On Japanese auction and marketplace listings, this phrase in the title or description indicates the watch is sold with its original manufacturer's warranty documentation.

What the Warranty Card Documents

Japanese watch warranty cards (保証書) are issued at the point of retail sale and record the purchase date, the selling retailer, and sometimes the reference number and serial. For JDM watches sold before 2019 when Seiko moved to a global warranty structure, the warranty card confirms the watch was purchased through an authorized Japanese retailer.

For vintage pieces, the warranty card is evidence of originality. A Seiko SARB033 with its original warranty card, dated to within two years of production end, demonstrates that the watch has not changed hands through non-retail channels and that the papers are contemporaneous with the watch.
