動作確認済

動作確認済 (dosa-kakunin-zumi) means operation verified. The seller has confirmed the watch is running. What this signals and its limitations.

動作確認済 combines 動作 (operation or movement), 確認 (confirmation), and 済 (completed) into a single disclosure: the seller has tested the watch and confirmed it is running. It is one of the most common positive condition signals in Japanese watch listings and one of the most frequently misread by buyers new to JDM sourcing.

Context and Usage

動作確認済 tells you the watch was running when the seller tested it. Nothing more. The term says nothing about accuracy, recent service history, or how long the watch will continue running. A related but stronger term is 動作品, which translates roughly to "running item" and carries similar meaning with slightly more confident phrasing. Sellers using 動作品 are typically more certain the watch is operating normally.

The contrast with 動作未確認 is important. 動作未確認 means the seller did not test the watch: unknown running status, not confirmed failure. A watch stored for decades might be listed as 動作未確認 if the seller inherited it and never wound it. That is a meaningfully different risk profile than 不動 (confirmed non-running). 動作確認済 is the positive confirmation that 動作未確認 lacks.

Some listings add 正常動作 (normal operation) alongside 動作確認済. This is a stronger claim: the seller is saying not just that the watch runs, but that it runs normally. On an automatic watch, this implies the rotor winds the mainspring, the hacking seconds function works, and the watch tracks approximately correct time. When you see both terms together, the seller has done a more thorough check than a simple wind-and-observe test.

Why It Matters for JDM Buyers

動作確認済 in isolation should be treated as a minimum baseline, not a buying recommendation. A vintage Seiko 6309 can be 動作確認済 while running 90 seconds fast per day, with dried lubricants, and needing a full overhaul within six months of purchase. Running is not the same as serviced.

Where 動作確認済 becomes more meaningful is in combination with other signals. A listing showing 動作確認済 alongside OH済 (overhaul completed) and 美品 (near-mint condition) from a reputable seller with a track record is a genuinely strong signal stack. That combination suggests a watch that runs, has been recently serviced, and is in excellent cosmetic shape.

For arbitrage buyers, 動作確認済 is a necessary but not sufficient condition. Tonbo scoring weights it as a positive signal while still requiring price and condition thresholds to be met. A non-running watch listed below threshold will not appear in arbitrage alerts regardless of other factors.
